Path of a Peaceful Warrior

Jesse Collin Young “Peace Song”

We must stop this cycle of violence we perpetrate upon each other and dare to choose love over fear. This can happen when you and I choose together to recoil from any urge to perpetrate violence upon another.  In word or deed.  Our words and actions are how we can begin the practice of being a peaceful warrior.   Some might question the use of the word warrior and peace in the same sentence.  Peace requires courage just as a warrior requires courage in the face of fear.   Violence  is an action of the ego, peace is an action of the deep spiritual heart.  It takes courage to enter the deep spiritual heart for  what is revealed to us is the the truth of our selves.

Many years ago I recall I had placed a bumper sticker on my car and days later someone had keyed the whole side of my car. I recall thinking “Wow, what must it be like to feel so entitled to damage someone’s property simply because you are having a reaction. I also recall asking myself, what could they have been so afraid of.  That said, some years later, I realized how I too have inflicted damage upon people born out of my reactions to feeling afraid and insecure. For example, I have lied out of fear of rejection, I have used anger as a weapon, I have withheld the truth out of fear of abandonment. In each of these instances I harmed another. So I too, am not perfect. Yet, as I continue to walk this path and dare to embrace my fears and insecurities the freer I have become and the more peaceful. And this is the path of awakening.
