This would not be happening if human beings created social economic systems providing all fellow human beings with safe access to food, clothing, and shelter. Most human beings who are under duress imposed by threats within social economic systems that fail to allow safe access to these basic common human needs will produce suffering. Suffering en masse produces desperation en masse. Human beings create these systems not some outside force of nature. “Desperate people do desperate things”. But NO ONE wants to be desperate. We are bright intelligent beings, we can with effort and empathy create such social systems and minimize the desperation of all.
