The Roots of Our Deep Need to Belong

This talk speaks to the underpinnings of why young people join gangs, why there is such a high recidivism rate in prisons and why there is such fear associated with leaving or separating from  gangs and groups evan if belonging to a group may appear to outsiders as self destructive.   People need to feel included and they need to feel as though they belong somewhere.    Today, more and more individuals are becoming marginalized resulting from  a broad range of sociological issues related to increase demands on it’s citizens to survive.   One such group of these individuals are children who are essentially,  required to raise themselves because no one is really available.   As you listen to the TED TALK below, you might think about their vulnerability in this world to loneliness and to their own limited options to answer that loneliness.
